Utensil Hire

A storage box with eating utensils for four people and other cooking utensils may be hired from Desert Camp reception on payment of a deposit. The contents of the storage box must be washed and the box returned on the day of departure. Once reception has determined that all the contents are present and in the required condition, the deposit amount gets refunded.

Kindly wash all utensils before returning storage box to reception on day of departure. Thank you for your co-operation.

Starter Packs

Starter packs comprising meat, vegetables, salads, bread, condiments, cheese and beverages may be ordered from Desert Camp reception before 18H00 the previous evening for collection the following day. The ordered pack will be delivered to the accommodation unit shortly after 14H00 on the requested date. The total price of the ordered pack is automatically added to the room account and must be settled in full before departure.

Meals may also be booked at neighbouring Sossusvlei Lodge through reception. For those wishing to really spoil themselves and forego the cooking chores, book dinner at the Lodge and experience an unforgettable buffet al-fresco under the stars on the terrace.

Important Notes :

Trees & Wood

The desert has very few or no trees at all. The trees that are present are extremely old and some have taken a hundred, if not a thousand, or more years to grow. Please do not disturb them - leave them untouched for others to enjoy too. They are an integral part of the whole desert eco-system. Their shade is precious, especially for the animals of the area - you will possibly appreciate this fact a little more once you've been down to the Vlei for a morning. Please do NOT break branches off or strip bark from the tree trunks. Do NOT collect any wood from the area or break wood up for fires. Bring your own firewood or purchase your bundles from reception.

Fires

Fires are one of the main enemies of the area due to the warm and dry environment of the desert. ONLY make fires in the barbeque facilities provided at each accommodation unit or at the bomas. After use, please close the lid of the fireplace to prevent any flying sparks that may ignite the nearby grass and vegetation. Be aware of the hazard of bushfires at all times - even with the discarding of cigarette butts, use the provided ashtrays.

Fire Procedure

In the event of a fire breaking out in an accommodation unit, the central communal area or the surrounding area, evacuate the area immediately and gather at the main reception parking area. Please report all fires or suspicion of a potential fire to reception - better safe than sorry. Each accommodation unit is supplied with a handheld water fire extinguisher and a sand bucket for immediate response to small fires - do NOT attempt to use this extinguisher on electrical fires (use sand after isolating the power) or bushfires that have already taken hold - report these instances to reception without delay. There are comprehensive mobile fire fighting facilities at the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge.
